Mid Autumn Festival

The mid autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar (usually around mid- or late-September in the Gregorian calendar). At this time, the moon is at its fullest and brightest, marking an ideal time to celebrate the abundance of the summer's harvest.
The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties. I read that there are more than 200 different varieties only in Hong Kong. You normally drink tea with your moon cakes. Unfortunately it is a quite expensive pleasure. Eight mini mooncakes like the one in the picture have cost me 120 HKD. But the taste is really nice especially from Hong Kong's Kee Wah bakery.

The original moon cake has a duck egg as filling symbolising the full moon. The egg yolk filling is not my favourite one though... But there are plenty of other filling available like green tea, white lotus seed, red beans, blcak sesame, chocolate etc.
